Investigations into corruption cases registered more than a year ago will be completed by June 30, the Lokayukta police told the High Court of Karnataka on Thursday.
A counsel for Lokayukta police gave this undertaking during the hearing of a petition through which the court has been monitoring the progress of investigations and trial in corruption cases.
Meanwhile, a list of corruption cases pending with the Lokayukta police was also submitted to the court.
Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda, who is monitoring the progress, has directed the Lokayukta police to complete the investigations expeditiously in the remaining pending cases.
As per the list, the Lokayukta police are now handling 747 corruption cases of which 538 are under investigation at various stages.
In 120 cases, the investigations are already done and the Lokayukta police are awaiting the response of the State government in their request to file charge sheets against the public servants in these cases.
While in 34 cases the probe was stayed either by the High Court or the Supreme Court, in 28 the special courts, where the charge sheets were already filed, are yet to assign case numbers. In 17 cases the final investigation reports have already been submitted to the special courts, and they are yet to be accepted.
Further hearing has been adjourned till August.
