NMC to hand over 140 acres to SAI
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will hand over its 140 acres land near Bhandewadi dumping yard to Sports Authority of India (SAI) for opening its regional centre in the city. The handing over ceremony will be held on Saturday at 10am at Naivedyam Istoriya, Bharat Nagar. “Under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, it will be SAI’s biggest regional training centre Central India and provide facilities to sportspersons from Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu,” said mayor Pravin Datke at a press conference on Thursday.
Ruling party leader Dayashankar Tiwari was also present at the meet.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the chief guest at the function. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal, Maharashtra higher education minister Vinod Tawde and guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bhavankule will also be present.
To a query, mayor Pravin Datke said the NMC would urge SAI it provide its facility free of cost to local athletes and also to students from NMC-run schools.
