Vyas reviews transportation of essential supplies to Ladakh

To review the transportation of essential supplies, including construction material, to Ladakh for 2016-17, a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development Department, BB Vyas here today.

The Financial Commissioner received a brief on the stock position with respect to foodgrains, petroleum products, LPG, construction material, timber, firewood and other material.

Vyas asked the officers to transport adequate amount of material to Leh and Kargil before the commencement of the Amarnath pilgrimage and tourist season.

The meeting was attended by Secretary, CA&PD, Shafiq Ahmed Raina; Secretary, Transport Department, RK Bhagat; the Secretary, Ladakh Affairs Department; IGP, Traffic, SA Watali and other senior officers concerned.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, Kargil DC and the Leh ADC also attended the meeting through video conferencing.

During the meeting, a proposal of supplies for 2016-17 in respect to both Leh and Kargil districts were discussed. The Financial Commissioner directed both the DCs to formulate the transportation plan with the involvement of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, so that the supply to the areas could be conducted hassle-free.

It was decided in the meeting that the movement of trucks carrying essential commodities/material will start from May 1 and the IGP, Traffic, was directed to monitor the vehicular movement on regular basis. Similar directions were given to various agencies involved in supplying essentials/material.

The CA&PD Department informed the Financial Commissioner about the status of the present quota of ration lying with the district administrations and said the proposed quantity of ration would be supplied. The department was directed to ensure adequate supply of sugar and kerosene so that the demand of the administration could be fulfilled.

Vyas instructed the MD, JK Cements, to supply cement to Leh and Kargil as per the demand projected in the proposal.

The Forest Department was asked to supply timber to the area to match the demand of the administration.

Officials of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation assured the chair that they would transport adequate number of LPG cylinders to the area to meet the demand.

Vyas also instructed the HPCL officials to resolve the issue of LPG subsidy raised by the Leh ADC.

The MD, JKSTRC, was directed to provide adequate number of trucks for smooth supply of material as per the transportation plan.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon assured the Financial Commissioner for regular monitoring of the movement of trucks and asked the DCs of Leh and Kargil to remain in touch for any other issue if arises pertaining to transportation and others.

It was decided in the meeting that the next review meeting would be held on May 1 to discuss the stock position.
