Four arrested for robbing women passengers
Vadodara: Gotri police on Thursday arrested four persons for robbing women commuters of Rs 1.80 lakh in the city. The accused Mohammad Ansari, Faridkhan Pathan, Mohsin Sheikh and Asif Ansari were arrested from Alkapuri after the police received a tip-off.
They had come to the city from Ahmedabad and targeted women near the railway station. Police said that the accused used to travel in a rickshaw posing as passengers and offered ride to unsuspecting women.
While one of them drove the rickshaw, three others used to sit beside women and steal cash and gold ornaments from their purses.
The accused have robbed eight women commuters and a man while travelling in the auto. While Mohammad and Asif are from Mehsana, Pathan and Sheikh from Ahmedabad. The police have recovered the rickshaw, mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 1.11 lakh. The cops will investigate whether the accused are involved in more such crimes.
