Ara: For the first time in its 24 year history, Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU) is all set to hold students’ union election.
A formal proposal in this regard has been sent to the Raj Bhawan for approval.
VKSU VC Leela Chand Saha told TOI on Thursday, “We plan to hold the first ever students union election of VKSU in August this year. We have sent a proposal in this regard to the Raj Bhawan.
A budget of Rs 10 lakh has also been approved in our last meeting of the Senate to hold the students union polls and a notification would be issued by June end.”
According to the VC, the election will give the students a voice in the decision making process of the varsity, as one of their representatives will be a member of the Senate and other university bodies like the students’ grievances redress cell.
With representatives of students present in these bodies, the decisions taken will be much more effective and acceptable.
“It is a good thing for the students as well as the university,” said the VC. The election will be held according to the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
The VC said the VKSU has already got the voter list of Degree Part II and Part III students and the varsity administration will get the voter list of Part I students in June, after the admission for new batch.
According to the Lyngdoh Committee report, first a representative from each class would be chosen and then they will participate in the final round of election.
