AHMEDABAD: Oil mafia, who specialise in stealing crude from refinery pipelines are using a new modus operandi to evade police attention.
They have been changing their vehicle number plates and then operating in nearby areas where the pipeline is present.
They have procured a bunch of Maharashtra registration plates which they replace with the existing one.
Palanpur police now claim that they may be the same gang responsible for the Amirgad and Siddhpur oil pilferage.
On Wednesday evening the local crime branch caught one such owner of such a truck after they found that the truck engine number, chasis number did not match with the details on the registration plate.
The truck was parked illegally on the Ahmedabad-Palanpur highway. The owner of the truck, Moinuddin Khan, was traced to Aman Park society in Palanpur. The LCB is now questioning him. @he has divlged vital information on the oil theft. The case will be clear in a day or two," says a senior LCB official at Palanpur.
