Vikas Thakur, city based weightlifter, finished 8th in the ongoing
Senior Asian Weightlifting Championship,
Uzbekistan keeping his chances bright to get
Olympics berth. Moreover, Thakur has given his best international performance so far, in the championship by lifting total 335kg weight under 85kg weight category.
The qualification confirmation will be announced by April 30th with the conclusion of the championship. However so far, Vikas has secured the top position in the Indian men’s category.
On Thursday, Vikas has lifted 150 snatch and 185 clean & jerk summing up to total 335, which is his best performance so far, on international ground.
Talking to TOI, over phone, Vikas expressed, “My main target was to beat Japan and Turkmenistan, as both were the strongest competitors and I have done that. I am quite happy with my performance.”
