DEHRADUN: For the smooth conduct of Char dham yatra and to provide the required assistance to pilgrims, Uttarakhand police have opened a new police station at Sonprayag, which is barely 15km before Kedarnath. A staff of 23 policemen have been deployed at the Sonprayag police station and Subodh Kumar Mamgai has been named the station officer.
After Rudraprayag, Augustmuni, Ukhimath and Guptakashi, this is the fifth police station in the state.
This takes the total number of police stations in Uttarakhand to 154. Recently, Governor K K Paul had inspected the route and ordered the opening of a new police station. Following which, the home department approved the police station for Sonprayag.
According to a senior police officer, “A total staff of 23 personnel which comprises 1 Inspector, 2 sub-inspectors, 2 Head constables, 14 constables, 2 women head constables, a driver and a follower.” The three police outposts of Gaurikund, Rambara and Kedarnath would be under the control of Sonprayag police station.
Keeping in mind the yatra season, all set to commence from May 9, plans are afoot to set up temporary police outposts at Lincholi, Bheembali, Junglechatti and Triyuginarayan. “It will be ensured that the pilgrims coming to Kedarnath do not face problem and return with a smile on their face,” he added.
