Soon You Might Get Goa's Feni At Your Local Pub And Liquor Shop!
Soon you might not have to pester Goa-going friends for a bottle of Feni - you'll get it at your local bars. The Goa state government may amend a 40-year-old Goa Excise Duty Act to enable Feni to be marketed across India.
Last month, state CM Laxmikant Parsekar had said that Feni, will be classified as 'heritage spirit of Goa' and not country liquor. It is well known for its medicinal value also, the chief minister said.

Now Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza has said they that they're going to bring Feni at par with international drinks like tequila and scotch, once also considered "country liquors."

“Feni’s sale is not allowed anywhere in India except in the union territory of Daman, because of its country liquor status. Upgrading it as Goa’s heritage drink will give Feni recognition like other international class drinks. Once the Act is amended, we plan to write to our counterparts so as to begin exporting the product to their States,” he told Herald.

Once the amendment is passed during the July Goa Assembly session, Feni might show up at your local theka !
