Vishnu keeps Indian challenge alive in singles

Chandigarh, Apr 28 (UNI) It was a disappointing day for Indians in the singles quarter-final matches of the 10,000 dollars ITF Men's Futures Tennis Tournament being played at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today. Only second seed Vishnu Vardhan is keeping the Indian challenge alive as he prevailed over Ranjeet Virali-Murugesan who retired after losing the first set in tie-breaker 7-6 (4) in one hour and nine minutes.
Eighth seed Katayama Sho of Japan showed the exit door to fourth seeded Indian N Sriram Balaji in three setter 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 12 minutes. Katayama broke the service of Balaji in the third and fifth game to take a good 4-1 lead and increased it to 5-1 after holding his serve in the sixth game.
Balaji broke Katayama in the eighth game (3-5) but the Japanese player won the ninth game on his serve and won the set at 6-3.
