Over 2 lakh children without Aadhar card in Surat

Large number of children without Aadhar card are being provided in special camps held at Anganwadis.

SURAT: In Surat city that has 3.25 children below the age of 5 years, more than 2 lakh of them don’t posses Aadhar Cards. Even 31,756 children of the total of 1,07,433 studying in Anganwadi’s of the city also don’t have Aadhar cards.
After central government made an announcement of mandatory Aadhar card for all, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started a special campaign to provide Aadhar card to children below 5 years of age and to those in age group of 5 to 18 years of age.

“ We have started special camps in Anganwadi’s for the children and for citizens camps have been started in 29 wards of the city.” Said an official from SMC . These cards are made free of cost on these special center , however charges are levied for the amendment in the card.
At present only 1.15 lakh children below age of 5 years have Aadhar cards with them whereas 75,677 children of Aanganwadi from the total of 1,07,433 have their Aadhar cards made up till now.
Maximum number of 9644 children from Udhna zone are still without Aadhar card whereas 7263 children from Limbayat zone are without these cards.
