In January 2016, Kalki Koechlin featured in a video reciting her poem ‘The Printing Machine’ and the word were so powerful that the video immediately went viral. The poem talks about the consumption of news by audience and how women issues are played up in media.

Kalki is a vocal actor and has often spoken publicly on social issues, a habit that has gained her many fans, of course, apart from her acting skills. And this list of admirers seems to include Melinda Gates, co-founder of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who herself has been extremely vocal about her views on women-eccentric issues.

Recently, Kalki shared a picture of a letter from Melinda Gates on Instagram, appreciating her contribution to bringing the attention to women issues that plague the country.

Dear Ms Koechlin:

I appreciate your taking time to join me in a discussion on empowering women and girls in India. Your video poem, “The Printing Machine”, was both powerful and thought-provoking.

Festive offer

Thank you for bringing attention to violence and discrimination against women. Your voice helps bring much needed attention and support to these issues – and I am grateful for your efforts.

It was a pleasure meeting you during my visit.

Sincerely,
Melinda Gates
