FOMO, TMI, Waggle Dance: New Words Added to Dictionary

From FOMO, the acronym that stands for the fear of missing out -- to TMI, or too much information

... thousands of words and acronyms were just added to the Merriam Webster Unabridged Dictionary.

An

acronym

is a word formed from the first letters of each one of the words in a phrase. Words like scuba and sonar are actually acronyms.

Other new inductees into the Merriam Webster dictionary include ICYMI, which stands for

in case you missed it

... and waggle dance, which is a series of movements performed by a bee to indicate where a food source might be.

Merriam Webster editors say the decision to add the new words is not an easy one. They monitor the words for years. And with every dictionary update, it reflects the change of the times. For instance, many of the new words are frequently used on social media.
