High School Roundup: CdM boys’ golf edges Northwood

Clay Seeber and Ethan Wien shared medalist honors after shooting a two-over par 37 at Newport Beach Country Club on Wednesday.

JohnMichael Jurgensen (38), Garrett Wayne (42) and Guy Clauss (42) also scored for CdM (11-4, 7-3 in league), which qualified for the CIF Southern Section South Coast Team Championship Tournament May 16 at Talega Golf Club in San Clemente.

CdM will also compete in the two-day Pacific Coast League finals starting on Monday at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.

BASEBALL

Newport Harbor 14, Los Alamitos 3

LOS ALAMITOS — Senior left-hander Jeremiah Sheldon improved to 5-3 by striking out five and allowing one run and five hits in the Sailors’ Sunset League game on the road Wednesday.

Josh Spicer went four for five with three runs batted in and a double and three runs for Newport Harbor (9-12, 4-6 in league).

Cade Seabold was two for three with three RBIs and two runs, while Max Crabbe was three for five with an RBI.

Newport Harbor plays host to Los Alamitos on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 117, Saddleback 42

Augustus Cunningham won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free for the Mustangs in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Costa Mesa High.

Cunningham touched in 1 minute, 53.38 seconds for the 200 free and 5:06.70 for the 500 free. Caleb Fleener won the 200 IM (2:21.10) and 100 back (1:07.77), while Nick Ly was also a double winner by capturing the 100 freestyle (50.91) and the 100 breast (1:07.90).

Jacob Petersen won the 50 free (23.28) and Teak Zachary won the 100 fly (1:03.70) for Costa Mesa.

The Mustangs host preliminaries for the Orange Coast League finals on Monday.

Estancia 115, Godinez 53

Chris DeFrenza won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Eagles in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Estancia High.

DeFrenza touched in 2:24.35 to win the IM, and won the breast in 1:15.33. Kent Lim won the 50 free in 24.91, and the 100 butterfly in 1:02.35, for the Eagles.

Cobi White was also a double-winner, taking the 100 free (50.28) and 100 backstroke (1:10.52).

DeFrenza, White, Lim and Chesemore won the medley and 400 free relays, while Victor Godfrey, Victor Castillo, Chris Bauer and Isaac Covarrubius won the 200 free relay.

Estancia finished 2-3 in league dual meets.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 135, Saddleback 26

Lauren Kiefer and Kendra Ferguson were both two-event winners for the Mustangs in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Costa Mesa High.

Kiefer won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.77, and the 500 free in 6:15.55. Fergeson won the 50 free (29.52) as well as the 100 backstroke (1:11.08).

Alyssa LeCours won the 200 IM (2:42.67) for the Mustangs, and Karlee Kistler won the butterfly in 1:17.54.

Sylvia Catania won the 100 free in 1:05.36, and Kaylie Tickenoff won the 100 breast in 1:23.97.

The Mustangs host preliminaries for the Orange Coast League finals on Monday.

Estancia 88, Godinez 82

The Eagles edged the Grizzlies in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Estancia High.

No individual highlights were provided.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 11, Temecula Valley 4

TEMECULA — Rylie Siegfried had four goals and three draw controls for the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague road game.

Katie Hendrix added three goals and five draw controls, while senior goalie Hannah Sanders (nine saves) and Jordan Rausch anchored the Newport defense.

Newport Harbor plays at Esperanza on Thursday in its Century SE League fiinale. The Sailors have already clinched the outright league title.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. University

Sam Kobrine had eight kills to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 Pacific Coast League win on Wednesday.

Sam Kobrine (eight kills), Mitch Haly (five kills) and Jake Meyer (four kills) also contributed for CdM (20-5, 8-0 in league).
