Shivamogga: With 95% of the water sources in Sorab and Shikaripur drying up, the two taluks of the district are facing one of the worst water crisis this summer. Villagers are totally dependent tanker water.
Sorab has already been declared drought-hit. In many areas, the newly drilled borewells too have not borne water.

District minister Kimmane Ratnakar who reviewed the situation in both taluks, has urged authorities to work on a war footing.
Shivamogga MP and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa who is touring the state has been urging the state government to declare his town as drought-hit. Kimmane assured Yeddyurappa that he would try and get Shikaripur declared drought-hit. He urged Bhadra CADA to supply drinking water through tankers to all tanda residents.
Villagers of eight villages of Shivamogga taluk have urged the district administration to provide clean drinking water by laying pipes from Gajnur Tunga Dam. They submitted a memorandum to the district administration to provide water to all villages using dam water. ZP CEO Rakesh Kumar said that there is no financial constraint for water projects in the district and respective local bodies are geared up to provide clean drinking water to villages.
