Ex-VC differs with CJI over pendency
Mysuru: University of Mysore former VC S N Hegde called for the streamlining of the legal system for speedy disposal of cases and to facilitate stringent action against wrongdoers in heinous offences.
"Our laws should be simple enough to be implemented within a particular period of time," Hegde said during the inauguration of a conference on 'Indian legal system - Emerging dimensions at JSS Law College.
"We read in newspapers that cases are adjourned for years. The statement 'justice delayed is justice denied' appears true here. Why the delay? Because of lack of judges or non-creation of new posts for judges? I don't think so," Hegde added.
Recently, CJI Thakur almost broke down before the Prime Minister, saying the judiciary has been blamed for the pendency of cases.
