Deputy President William Ruto is facing a quandary over who to pick to fly Jubilee’s flag in the Bomet governor election. Two of his key allies have announced they will run for election.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Sotik MP Joyce Laboso and National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation chairman Julius Kones have announced they will square it out with Governor Isaac Rutto for the top job. The duo have rolled out several development projects to strengthen their candidature.

Both Kones and Laboso wield massive support at the grassroots.

However, toppling Rutto will depend on their ability to convince residents on thier suitability. Ruto is keen to remove his one-time-friend-turned-foe, Governor Rutto, from the seat. The governor has been critical on how the Jubilee administration runs its affairs.

The DP had earlier indicated the party nominations will be free and fair.

But without an endorsement from Ruto, Kones and Laboso might find it hard to beat Rutto. The DP is also aware that Governor Rutto has a chance of retaining his seat, since he banks on his development and performance record.

The governor has led some key reforms since he was elected for the county top job.
