Saxony-Anhalt at HANNOVER MESSE 2016

Research meets application – Saxony-Anhalt’s SMEs impress with competitive system solutions

“Integrated Industries – Discover Solutions” – that’s the motto of this year’s HANNOVER MESSE. On the joint stand of the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt in Hall 4/G05, ten SMEs are presenting specific application examples for Industry 4.0, unique solutions for networking the energy sector value chain, new products combining intelligent and innovative ideas as well as cutting-edge system solutions.

In the fields of science, central German research institutes, including 13 projects and exhibits from universities, universities of applied sciences and research institutes in Saxony-Anhalt are showing their cutting-edge projects on the joint stand “Research for the future” in Hall 2/A38. Highlights from research and innovation are presented here. Like the Bestform Award winner Mediglove, who for the first time demonstrates the interactive prototype of its medical diagostic glove, which combines a pulse monitor, stethoscope and thermometer.

The USA, the partner country for this year’s HANNOVER MESSE, is one of the most important partners for Saxony-Anhalt’s economy. Dr Carlhans Uhle, Managing Director of the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt, the economic development agency of the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt,responsible for the state’s joint stand, explains: “American companies have invested more than EUR 2 billion and created about 7,000 jobs since 1991. This makes the USA the largest foreign investor in Saxony-Anhalt. Regarding the exports, the United States rank in third place for Saxony-Anhalt’s most important export destinations.” However, it’s not just the economy that binds Saxony-Anhalt and the USA but also its shared cultural and historical roots. Uhle is sure that the Luther exhibitions this year ahead of the anniversary of the Reformation in three North American cities will once again be proof of this.

The companies at the stand of Saxony-Anhalt in Hall 4/G05:

  • Seco Thale GmbH, who is appearing with new processes for recycling plastics without losing any quality, is holding its premiere on the joint stand. What’s special about this: “It is in fact a ground-breaking innovation,” emphasises Thomas Köck, explaining: “Generally plastics are recycled using thermal or inferior recovery processes, which reduce the quality of the material.” The company had developed new processing methods with which it is possible for the first time to add prepared plastic waste almost 100 percent to new blends. The heart of the invention, according to chemical engineer Deinert, is the separating process. Whether it’s the dashboard, mounts or ventilation slots – it’s always different plastics that are processed. Polypropylene, polyurethane and polyvinyl-chloride can be separated from each other using the new technologies.
  • The IT company Indalyz Monitoring & Prognostics GmbH presentsits innovative software solutions for machine maintenance. Wind turbines are already mainly permanently monitored by sensors nowadays. These kinds of sensors measure, for example the machine noise that is produced by the turbine when it is running. These sound waves are characteristic for every single turbine and reveal the technical condition of its individual components. If a specified tolerance is exceeded, the turbine has to be maintained or in the worst case scenario switched off. But the time for this may be unfavourable. For example, precisely during the time in spring or autumn with the most wind. Because the shutdown is lasting weeks. The standard maintenance strategy, which is based on monitoring the current condition of machinery and systems, therefore has its disadvantages. The solution is predictive maintenance. It is the key Industry 4.0 term today and the young IT company from Saxony-Anhalt is a pioneer in this field. Indalyz Monitoring & Prognostics GmbH develops predictive software-based maintenance strategies for individual machines, complex plants and machine clusters. Therefore, any resulting malfunctions are identified early using artificially intelligent algorithms, long before the critical machine condition occurs. The operator can therefore organise servicing, materials and personnel ideally, which in turn permanently reduces the operating costs.
  • Thermoplast GmbH has made a name for itself with plastic winding cores, gutters and customised products. Recycled waste from the dual system, bottle production and even shredded lampposts finds a new purpose here. Aribert Meißner, Managing Director of Thermoplast GmbH: “Plastic gutters were invented at Thermoplast 60 years ago.” After the fall of the German Wall, the small company from Schönhausen had the idea of plastic winding cores and has become successful in that field.

Other companies from Saxony-Anhalt will be represented as individual exhibitors at HANNOVER MESSE, these include FEAG Sangerhausen, Duropan GmbH and Holland Filter or as sub-exhibitors in themed special presentations, for example HYPOS in Hall 27, stand E55/1.
