One-year-old girl child drowns in water tub
Coimbatore: In yet another incident exposing the danger of leaving infants unattended, a one-year-old baby died after falling into a water tub on Variety Hall Road.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, when the baby girl, P Sarathy, was reportedly playing alone in the bedroom of their house on Swamy Iyer New Street just off the busy Variety Hall Road.

"Her mother, Suma Hatti, said she was cooking in the kitchen on the other side of their small house and left Sarathy in the bedroom thinking that she was sleeping," a police officer on the case said.
"The mother said it was only after she prepared lunch she realised that she had not heard Sarathy's voice for a long time. When she went to the bedroom, the child wasn't there. And when she looked in the bathroom attached to it, the girl child was found floating on the water tub upside down," the officer further said.
Hearing her cry, her neighbours rushed to her house. They then informed police.
According to police, apart from standing and sitting, the girl child was able to crawl and move around actively. "We believe that she might have caught hold of the water tub to balance herself as she tried to walk inside the bathroom, but in the process slipped into it and could not turn herself over," the police said.
Sarathy was the second child of Prasath a goldsmith from West Bengal. He works in a gold plating shop at Town Hall.

According to police, Prasath moved to Coimbatore about seven years ago in order to make his living. His wife Suma moved to Tamil Nadu after their first son was born. He now studies in LKG.
Prasath was in West Bengal as there was a family emergency when the incident took place.
The post-mortem is likely to be done on Thursday morning at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. Police have registered a case in this connection.
