Tiatr artiste, lyricist Lawrence de Tiracol no more

Well known lyricist, tiatr artiste, singer and director Lourenco A Fernandes, popularly known as Lawrence de Tiracol, passed away in Tiracol on April 26 at the age of 72, after losing a battle with renal failure.

Well known lyricist, tiatr artiste, singer and director Lourenco A Fernandes, popularly known as Lawrence de Tiracol, passed away in Tiracol on April 26 at the age of 72, after losing a battle with renal failure.
A multifaceted personality, Lawrence de Tiracol recorded over 48 albums on cassettes and CDs, of which 22 are with Lorna. His most memorable album was that of Lorna's comeback ‘Hello Lorna', which was a runaway success.
He had written more than 500 songs and had worked with well-known music companies. The three tiatrs he scripted were titled ‘Sonstin Sanddlolo', ‘Dukhacho Daag', and ‘Konnak Mhunnom Maim'.
Born on July 17, 1943, Lawrence de Tiracol was 14 years old when he was first introduced to the Konkani stage by Francis de Parra in his tiatr ‘Sotchem Bhirad'. He went on to work with renowned tiatr artistes such as Kid Boxer, C Alvares, Remmie Colaco, Star of Arrossim, Rico Rod, etc.
Senior tiatr artiste Jessie Dias, who had directed Lawrence de Tiracol's tiatr ‘Konnak Mhunnon Maim', said: "He was a very good lyricist and had a good voice. We both entered the tiatr stage around the same time, and I first performed with him in my brother Lucas Cardozo's tiatr ‘Eksuro'. May our Lorry's soul rest in peace."
For his contribution to tiatr, the Goa government conferred upon him the prestigious ‘State Cultural Award' and was also felicitated by Kala Academy Goa. He was also the recipient of Tiatr Academy of Goa's ‘Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards' in 2015.
The Tiatr Academy of Goa has condoled the death of Lawrence de Tiracol this great personality and express heart felt sympathies to his bereaved family.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at St Anthony's Church, Tiracol, at 10am.
