Thadoli (Ajmer): The water works department for the first time has started the fourth pump of Bisalpur dam to pump 24 MLD extra water for Ajmer daily. The pump will meet the extra demand of drinking water in the district. The extra water will also be supplied to bordering regions of Pisanghan, Bhinai, Masuda, Roopanger and Kekri and Sarwar, including their villages.
The move will benefit around 1,104 main habitations and eight urban towns of the district.
For the department, it was an exciting moment when the pump was started and the water gushed into the pump house. The official feared that the existing prestressed cement concrete pipe line might burst. But, the officials controlled the water pressure and the fourth pipeline was operated successfully. The officials AEN Ramniwas Khati and XEN M L Meena under the leadership of superintending engineer Sunil Singhal had reached Bisalpur and made all arrangements for operating the fourth pump.
"Till now, only three of the six pump sets were operational at the pump house. Thus, there was a shortfall of 25 MLD water because a large number of villages are linked with the Bisalpur dam and the demand has gone up in the past three to four years," said Khati. He added that the fourth pump is the part of the system and, therefore, they had to operate it to fulfill the demand.
"Till now, 285 million litre per day (MLD) water was being produced from the Thadoli pump house of the Bisalpur system. With the new pump, the production will increase to 310 MLD, which will be sufficient to fulfil the needs of the district," added Sunil Singhal.
He further said that during the policy planning committee meeting last week at Jaipur, PHED minister Kiran Maheshwari posed the challenge before the department to provide drinking water in this summer as a priority.
It is one of the first steps to improve water supply in the district and to give relief to the people who are facing serious scarcity of water.
The Bisalpur dam at present on Wednesday evening had the level of 311.21 meter and water is left exclusively for the drinking water to Jaipur and Ajmer. Officials said that the water discharge for irrigation has been stopped. The dam produces 490 MLD of drinking water for Jaipur daily. This production can be increased in the coming days, sources said.
Presently, Ajmer is also transporting Bisalpur water to nearby Bhilwara district though a special water train consisting of fifteen wagons carrying 25 lakh litres water daily from the Nasirabad railway station. Since 19 January, the department has supplied 22 hundred lakh litre of water to Bhilwara.
