IIT-JEE (Mains) 2016 results: Mumbai fares well

Also among the toppers is Ameya Patil, from Andheri, with 311 marks. He said he could have performed better had he completed the Main exam in time. He said, “Though the question paper was only a bit difficult than last year’s, there were quite a few errors in the Maths and Physics sections, due to which students ended up losing much time.”

With a score of 305, Sahurauya Pandey from Navi Mumbai, says he challenged a wrong question in Math paper after the release of the exam answer key on April 18 and feels he got a bonus for that. A bronze medalist in the International Maths Olympiad, this budding mathematician is also eyeing IIT Mumbai. Thane resident Dimple Kochar with 291 marks, credits her successful performance to her brother, an IIT B graduate, who helped her “sit through the hard work and pressure involved in the JEE preparation” and was always by her side.

Coming from the humble village of Chincholi in Buldana district of Maharashtra, Narayan Sadavarte scored 72 marks, 22 above the cut-off for the SC category. Praveen Tyagi, managing director of Pace Jr Science College, said, “When he had come to Mumbai two years ago to write the entrance test for Pace, he slept on road for two days and was in torn clothes. He did not know how to speak English, and look at the result he has achieved now. We are especially proud of him.”

While the cut-off for the general category this year is 100, five marks lower than the previous year’s, for SC it is 70 marks, SC 52 and ST 48. These students are among the 1,98,228 students in the country who have qualified for the JEE advanced examination to be held May 23. The registration for it will start from April 29 and end May 4.

A total of 11,28,636 candidates had appeared for JEE Main offline paper I and paper II on April 3 and the online paper I and II on April 9 and 10 respectively. All these shortlisted two lakh candidates are a step closer to getting admitted into undergraduate programmes at IITs, NITs and other technical institutions across the country.
