Ahmedabad: Rakesh Asthana, a 1984 Gujarat-cadre IPS officer, who was the first to declare the Godhra train fire of February 2002 a "carefully planned and meticulously executed criminal conspiracy", is likely to head the anti-corruption and economic offences wings of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Highly placed police sources said Asthana is also likely to supervise other important cases for the CBI.
It is noteworthy that Asthana is the second IPS from Gujarat deputed to the CBI; he will be additional director. IPS officer Arun Kumar Sharma was deputed to the CBI as joint director last year. tnn
