Punjab government on Wednesday announced promotion of 88 deputy superintendents of police (DSP) rank cops to SP rank.

Chandigarh: Punjab government on Wednesday announced promotion of 88 deputy superintendents of police (DSP) rank cops to SP rank.
Overall, 48 DSPs were given the charge of officiating SP while 40 others were given the charge of permanent SP.
This included anti-terror specialist cop Rajinder Singh Sohal, who had led operations in bringing top Khalistani ultras Jagtar Tara, Harminder Mintoo and Ramandeep Goldy.
He is also recipient of two President medlas including gallantry and meritrious services in 1995 and 2005.
He had also solved the jailbreak case when the trio of Jagtar Tara, Jagtar Hawara and Paramjit Beora while they had tried to escape from the Burail Jail. Sohal is currently DSP Rajpura with Patiala Police. Another Patiala cop and DSP Arshdeep Singh, who is presently leading the investigations into the Rs 6,000-crore synthetic drug scam, was also promoted as SP.
