Boat operators held for flouting safety norms

The Fort Kochi coastal police on Wednesday arrested operators of three tourist boats, which were being operated by violating rules of passenger safety.

The arrested have been identified as Samban of Vaikkom, Yesudas of Kakkazham and Xavier of Mundamveli.Held on cheating charge

The Kothamangalam police on Wednesday arrested a 36-year-old person on charges of duping two persons of Rs 7 lakh by offering jobs abroad.

The accused was identified as Firoz Khan, a native of Kumily in Idukki. The accused was produced in a local court and remanded in custody.

Three held for extortion

The Kalady police on Wednesday arrested three persons on charges of assaulting a tipper driver and extorting money from his possession.

The accused were identified as Midhun, Jibin and Anoop, all residents of Kalady. The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the three accused, under the influence of alcohol, stopped the truck near Manjappra and sought money. As the driver refused, they assaulted him and snatched cash.
