A manager of Canara Bank committed suicide at his residence in Jayanagar 9th Block on Wednesday due to alleged harassment by his seniors.

The deceased, Sudheendra Murthy (57), was a resident of Shanthi Apartment near Ragigudda. He leaves behind wife and daughter.

According to the police, Murthy was posted in the J.P. Nagar branch. He was depressed allegedly due to pressure from his seniors over loan recovery. Murthy had told his family that many of the people who had taken loans during his tenure had turned defaulters and were refusing to repay. His seniors were pressuring him to recover the loans and had even withheld his promotion, a senior police officer said.

The family members had taken him for psychological consultations after he slipped into depression. He was under medication.

On Wednesday morning, Murthy’s daughter found him hanging from the ceiling of the hall. She raised an alarm following which the neighbours rushed to their home. The Tilak Nagar police shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.

The police have found a note stating that “he was taking the extreme step due to harassment by his seniors.”

A case of unnatural death has been registered.
