LUCKNOW: In a clear U-turn from his earlier stand, UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya told TOI on Wednesday that constructing a grand temple at Ayodhya would be the best tribute to Vishwa Hindu Parishad patron Ashok Singhal.
This is a departure from his statement earlier this month, when, after taking over the reins of the party in UP, he had declared that Ram temple would not be on poll agenda and that assembly elections would be contested only on the development plank.
"Construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya is the wish of every 'Rambhakt' and so is mine," Maurya, who had taken part in the temple movement and had worked closely with Singhal , said. He said the temple issue was never off the table for BJP as it had been in its manifesto.
