Second BRTS corridor to take off today, activists slam move in Pune

However, actvists said there is no need to hurry and it is more important to get the infrastructure on the BRTS route in order. “The Yerawada-Wagholi BRTS route is fraught with danger. Only on Wednesday morning, a car hit a pedestrian which could be due to a broken divider,” said Jugal Rathi of PMP Pravasi Manch.

Rathi said the ITMS (Intelligent Traffic Management System) has not been installed ‘fully’ on the stretch. “PMPML has been claiming that ITMS has been installed on the route. However, the work is incomplete and it raises the issues of safety,” he said. “The PMPML had said that there would be uninterrupted power supply on the corridor. However, this aspect has not been settled so far. As a result, bus doors may not get closed automatically resulting in accidents,” he added.

The 14-km long Nagar Road BRTS has 13 BRT stations on the segregated 7.86 km section from Yerwada to Aaple Ghar, and 25 bus routes including Wadgaon Sheri, Viman Nagar, Khulewadi, Shubham Society, Chandan Nagar and Kharadi, besides providing connectivity to Pune railway station, Swargate and Warje Malwadi. Five long distance routes to Sangvi Sandas, Karandigaon/ Kendurgaon, Wade Bolhai, Markal and Wadegaon/ Kesnand would now terminate at the proposed Wagholi terminal.
