Lahore: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started its attempts of plea-bargaining with Kamran Kiyani, younger brother of former Chief of Army Staff General (Retd) Ishfaq Pervez Kiyani in his alleged involvement in DHA city scandal case.
As per official sources, NAB has decided to file a reference against Hammad Arshad, a close relative of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry adding that NAB is in complete contact with Kamran Kiyani and he is being pressurized to pay Rs 4 billion or ready to face the legal proceedings.
Presently, Kamran Kiyani is out of the country.
Sources while quoting the report published in local media said that NAB is not in hurry to bring back Mr. Kiyani to Pakistan through Interpol adding that it has been said through the close source of Mr. Kiyani that NAB is being contacted and there is chance of settlement without investigation or any probe.
The spokesperson of NAB Lahore said that investigation against Kamran Kiyani was in final stage; however he categorically denied that NAB is in contact with Mr. Kiyani adding that as per rules, he has a choice of plebargaining with NAB.
The spokesperson of NAB further said that Kamran Kiyani and Hammad Arshad had to pay the dues worth billions of rupees to NAB as determined by it.
Responding to a question about not conducting any legal proceeding against Mr. Kiyani, the spokesperson said that NAB serves the summons to them and it would be decided to take further action after completion of investigation.
“NAB has decided to file a reference against Hammad Arshad, and he takes interest in plebargaining, however no agreement was signed between him and NAB over payment of dues”, the spokesperson added and maintained that five months earlier NAB had served summons to Kamran Kiyani but his family members have refused to received it.
The central spokesperson of NAB Nawazish Ali Asim has categorically denied to respond these queries which indicates that NAB’s Chairman has to face pressure in this high-profile case.
Former Director NAB, Brigadier (Retd) Farooq Muhammad was of the view that bureau’s attitude was strange in this case adding that Tauqeer Sadiq and Hamish Khan has been brought back in previous cases, however NAB has failed to pursue the prime accused in DHA city case.
It is worth-mentioning here that Kamran Kiyani and Hammad Arshad both are allegedly involve in the case. Hammad Arshad had issued the allotment letters to allottees and collected Rs 15.47 billion against it and later has transferred this amount in his bank account. The NAB has arrested Hammad Arshad in the first week of January, 2016, who is said to be the owner of private company Gulobako and the DHA has also declared Mr. Kamran Kiyani as co-accused in this case.
