Vincent Kompany is convinced Manchester City will push Real Madrid all the way in next week's decisive Champions League semi-final clash.

City earned a creditable 0-0 draw against the 10-time European Cup winners at the Etihad Stadium, preventing Real from scoring a precious away goal.

Skipper Kompany is convinced City will score at the Bernabeu next Wednesday and do everything they can to cause a major upset by reaching the final.

"We're always looking to score goals," said Kompany. "If we don't manage to score a goal, what claims can we make for going to the final?

"So I expect us to score a goal and, if we do, the game is going to be really interesting.

"I wouldn't expect us not to score for 180 minutes.

"If we can score at the Bernabeu, I'd be very surprised not to be playing for a place in the final until the end of the game."

Kompany admitted the game at the Etihad was a cagey affair, with neither side willing to risk too much and potentially lose the tie in the first leg.

"I think both teams had a game-plan," said Kompany . "I didn't expect to see both teams over-commit in the first half of this tie. That's basically what happened.

"There were only two strikers on the pitch. They were defending really well and we had to defend really well."

Kompany also paid tribute to City keeper Joe Hart, who made some outstanding saves at point-blank range late on to keep the scoreline at 0-0.

"I thought we struggled with one or two set-pieces and Joe did great," said Kompany.

"At this level you're expected to have a top goalkeeper behind you and he did his job like he always does. I just want to remain humble and focused.

"I think Real Madrid were well organised and disciplined, probably playing as they have done in the the big games this season.

"But we matched them in that sense. I will still be surprised if it remains 0-0 at the Bernabeu."
