Competition on for making videos based on Suresh Bhat’s never heard before ghazals
NAGPUR: To encourage new talent and popularize ghazals written by famous Marathi song writer Suresh Bhat, a unique competition has been launched by the promoters of the album ‘82pop’ where a participant can download any or all six of his new ghazals sung by Asha Bhonsle and set to music by popular Indipop artist Mandar Agashe.
“We want enthusiasts to make a video based on the songs and upload it or mail a link to us.
They can make one or all six with their mobile phone camera or a regular one. The selection would be made by Asha Bhonsle and Mandar Agashe and it will become the official video for the song,” said Manoj Tatwadi of ICT media that has launched the album.
A software engineer by profession, Agashe who is also a singer, music composer and song writer has had popular Indipop albums like ‘Nazar Nazar’ to his credit. His previous album of Suresh Bhat songs was 'Achanak' which included ghazals by Shirsh Pai too.
“Sureshji had expressed a desire that his ghazals should be composed in western style and sung by Asha Bhonsle. I had met him two decades back in Pune when he had given me ten of his ghazals which had not been heard before,” says Agashe who works in varied genres like pop, reggae, blues, rock, and ballad.
“When I suggested this to Ashaji she heard my tunes and agreed to do the album which was recorded in just a week,” he says.
