I haven't changed my stand: Wagh
RSS and BBSM are demanding that grants to English-medium primary schools be stopped.
A week ago, Arlekar had termed the government's decision to extend grants to 129 English-medium schools "wrong". On Sunday, the Ayush minister had indirectly said that the government's policy (on MoI) needed to be changed.
"I have not changed my stand on MoI," said Wagh, the vocal leader who joined BJP at the height of BBSM's agitation against the decision of the Congress-led government to extend grants to English-medium primary schools in 2011.
Wagh quit Congress over the MoI and joined BJP, which by then had sided with BBSM in its fight against the government's decision. "The only solution is that English-medium primary schools availing grants be given the option of starting classes in Roman Konkani," said Wagh.
While the government continues to be embroiled in the MoI controversy, with BBSM on one side, and Forum for Rights of Children to Education (FORCE) on the other, Wagh said he does not blame chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
"He has inherited the problem," said Wagh, further warning that the government must not undermine the current BBSM agitation. "They are more focused and organized now," he said.
