NEW DELHI: A look at the key passages of play from Match 22 of the Indian Premier League, in which Rising Pune Supergiants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs via D/L method. With this victory, RPS snapped their four-match losing streak and managed to gain take the sixth place in the points-table.
Rain and team changes bring good fortunes for RPS
No overs were lost despite rain causing a delayed start to the match.
MS Dhoni's changes in the Playing XI proved a masterstroke. Dhoni brought in Ashok Dinda for his first match of the season and Bengal pacer justified his inclusion by removing the man-in-form David Warner in the first over. After bowling just one over, Dinda was brought on from the other end for the fifth where he sent back Aditya Tare cheaply. Two early wickets left Sunrisers in a spot of bother. Dinda was rewarded with Man of the Match award for his stupendous figures of 3/23. He later also removed Naman Ojha to thwart any hopes that Sunrisers may have had.
Dhoni's other change Mitchell Marsh did not disappoint either. He removed the dangerous Eoin Morgan and Moises Henriques to break the back of Sunrisers' middle-order to finish with economical figures of 2 for 14.
Middle-order crumbles after Warner exit
Having won their last three matches riding on Warner's exploits, Sunrisers' middle order was not properly tested in the tournament. So when Warner finally flopped for the first time this tournament, their middle-order crumbled to a quality RPS attack. Warner, who came into the match on the back three successive fifties, fell for duck in the first over and his dismissal was followed by a flurry of wickets as Sunrisers were left reeling at 32/5 in 8.1 overs. Tare, Morgan, Henriques and Deepak Hooda were back in the dugout after contributing just 10 runs to the total.

Dhawan's two crucial partnerships
Having lost half their side inside nine overs, Shikhar Dhawan tried to rebuild the innings alongside Naman Ojha. They added 47 for the sixth wicket - the highest of the innings that gave Sunrisers some hope. The situation could have been worse had Rahane not dropped Dhawan in the 16th over, but the left-hander played through the innings with a 53-ball 56. After Ojha's exit, Dhawan found surprising support from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who played a cameo of 21 off 8 balls, including three fours and six. Had it not been for that small yet valuable stand, Sunrisers may have been bundled out for the lowest total of the tournament.
Du-Plessis, Smith and rain take RPS home
Chasing 119, Supergiants lost Rahane to Bhuvneshwar in the first over. Faf du Plessis and Steven Smith then ensured there were no further hiccups in their chase. Both took charge and capitalised on anything loose on offer. Du Plessis whipped off Bipul Sharma for a four and a six in the seventh over to get going. The pair put on 80 runs in 8.2 overs before Henriques sent du Plessis back into the dugout. RPS were comfortably placed at 94/3 in 11 overs when rain played spoilsport again. The stoppage helped them seal a 34-run victory via (D/L method). Smith remained unbeaten on 46 off 36 balls with the help of seven boundaries.
