Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Khagaria block education officer (BEO) Vijay Kumar Paswan while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a complainant. One Chittranjan Kumar, a resident of Sonihar village under the Alauli police station area of Khagaria district, filed a complaint, stating that Paswan demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for releasing the salary of his wife Sadhna Sinha, acting principal of Sonihar Middle School.
The accused will be produced before a special vigilance court in Patna after interrogation. At least 43 persons have been arrested in 39 trap cases so far in 2016.
Life term to two: The court of additional district and sessions judge Jyoti Swaroop Shrivatava on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to Vikash Yadav (28) and Anil Yadav (30) convicted for killing one Surendra Yadav and his mother Jagdamba Devi. A fine of Rs 10,000 each was also slapped on the culprits."Vikash and Anil, who are brothers, wanted to buy a piece of land from Surendra and his mother, but they refused. On June 3, 2013, the two brothers along with three other men barged into Surendra's house and attacked him and his mother who tried to save him," Additional public prosecutor Narad Mandal said and added the bodies were recovered from a nearby field the next morning.
Two killed, 250 houses gutted: Two children were burnt to death on Tuesday as a major fire broke out gutting 250 houses in Balrampur village of East Pataili panchayat under Ujiarpur block in Samastipur district. "The blaze killed Guddu Kumar (8) and Doli Kumari (9)," BDO Sanjeev Kumar said, adding rescue and relief measures were launched soon after.
Woman, 2 sons commit suicide: A woman and her two minor sons committed suicide by immolating themselves at Ramauli village in Darbhanga district. "Peeved with frequent quarrels in her family, 30-year-old Sheela Devi and her sons Rajkumar Mahto (9) and Vikas Kumar Mahto (6) set themselves on fire on Tuesday," DSP Anjani Kumari said, adding the bodies were sent for postmortem to a government hospital and a probe was on to find out the exact motive behind the incident.
2 killed, 2 injured in accident: Two persons were crushed to death by a speeding jeep on Kanti-Marwan road while two others injured in the incident under the Kanti police station area of Muzaffarpur district on Monday. Kanti police station additional officer-in-charge Vijay Kumar said, "The incident took place when a speeding vehicle knocked down four persons standing on Kanti-Marwan road near Marwan village, killing two of them on the spot. ."
Woman hurt in CM's programme: Manju Devi, a Jeevika employee, was injured when a ceiling fan fixed with the pandal fell on her during chief minister Nitish Kumar's interactive session with women at Sandy's Compound in Bhagalpur on Tuesday. Manju, a resident of Ismailpur in Naugachia sub-division, fell unconscious and was rushed to the emergency ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. Bhagalpur district magistrate Adesh Titarmere said after being discharged from the hospital, the woman once again chose to go to Sandy's Compound to listen to the CM's speech.
