Itanagar: At least 64 families in Dumpani village and 16 families in Jyotipur village under Diyun circle in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh have lost their dwellings and land while more than 100 have been affected by the pre-monsoon flood caused by the Noa Dihing river.
Local MLA Nikh Kamin took stock of the situation on Monday along with the additional DC, extra assistant commissioner, Indian Army and police, according to an official report here on Tuesday.
He visited all badly affected areas in Jyotipur and Dumpani villages, and areas that are vulnerable to flood.
The MLA has assured the victims that all possible help will be extended and that he will appeal to the government to come up with a permanent solution to the menace of Noa Dihing flood, which erodes a chunk of fertile land of the state every year. Kamin handed out Rs 1.2 lakh to victims as immediate relief while the administration has distributed food items. He lauded the Indian Army, Dumba Camp, for its active role in the rescue operation.
ADC S Miji and EAC Tagam Mibang have said they understand the gravity of the situation and advised people not to go back to stay along the river until the monsoon is over as the water level could rise anytime, the report added.
