Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal filed a defamation suit of Rs 99 crore against Congress leader Siddique Ahmed on Tuesday.
In the suit, Ajmal complained that Siddique had made damaging statements against him during a public rally in Goalpara earlier this year.
The AIUDF media cell said, "Siddique had accused Ajmal of supplying arms to Muslim youths after the BTAD riots in 2012.
This is a damaging statement for Ajmal's public image. The statement is completely baseless."
Advocate AS Tapader and advocate L Takudar represented Ajmal in the court.
Ajmal had earlier filed defamation suits of over Rs 100 crore against Assam Pradesh Congress president Anjan Dutta and Rs 99 crore against another perfume trader Mustaque Anfar for accusing Ajmal of taking money from BJP and having a secret political understanding with BJP during the state election. tnn
