Parameshwara appeals to MNCs, seers to donate to tackle drought

April 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - BENGALURU:

In the wake of severe drought across the State, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has appealed to IT and biotechnology companies, multinational firms, industrialists, civic organisations, film fraternity and seers of various mutts to voluntarily donate funds for relief works in the affected areas.

In a statement to the press, KPCC president G. Parameshwara said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade had contributed Rs. 1 crore for undertaking relief works in drought-hit villages. Companies located in Karnataka should respond to the grievances of the affected people, he said.

The government had formed four Cabinet sub-committees and its members had been touring districts to oversee the implementation of relief work. The government would lead an all-party delegation to the Centre to seek more funds for the State, Mr. Parameshwara, who also holds the Home portfolio, he said.

The KPCC president said the Opposition should refrain from politicising the drought, and concerted efforts should be made to respond to the drinking water requirements of people and fodder requirement of domestic animals.
