Congress fumes at K Chandrasekhar Rao for defections

They said a legislator changing parties is not a crime or a sin, but before any such change, he or she should resign from the House.

Hyderabad: Leaders of the Opposition in the Assembly and the Legislative Council, K. Jana Reddy and Mohd. Ali Shabbir respectively, on Tuesday criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for continuing to encourage defection of Congress MLAs without seeking their resignations.

They said that it was nothing but blatant misuse of the Constitutional spirit and time alone would decide the fate of Mr Rao. Mr Jana Reddy termed the defections as “vinaasakaale viparitha buddhi”.

The two leaders said that it was time for the Parliament and Supreme Court to look into the new trend of defections in Telangana state that are in gross violation of all ethical and constitutional norms.

They said a legislator changing parties is not a crime or a sin, but before any such change, he or she should resign from the House. By virtue of being in government, the CM should not have encouraged defections like it was happening in TS, the Congress leaders said.

“When someone else comes to power tomorrow, what would be the fate of KCR and his MLAs if defections are encouraged in same manner,” Mr Jana Reddy asked.
