The melody of the sarangi and the beats of the tabla came together to create magic as sarangi maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri and tabla exponent Pt Prodyut Mukherjee performed together in a special concert this past week.
The performance served as the closing act of the Spirit of Dance Festival, organised by classical dance teacher Alaknanda. The highlight of the show was the jugalbandi between the sarangi and the tabla as both the maestros engaged in a duet/duel, both trying to match and outdo the other, which drew loud applause from the crowd.
Ranjit, a businessman who attended the show, said, “Who says classical music cannot be entertaining?”
The show also saw the presence of the Polish Ambassador to India, Tomasz Lukaszuk and his wife Maria. “It isn’t the first classical show I have attended and I must say I am impressed as always. I am honoured that I was invited here, which gave me the opportunity to listen to some wonderful music. I am sure that music and arts are the media through which India and Poland can strengthen their ties,” the ambassador said.
