Fire burns 60 houses, 5000 fowl in two districts
At least 60 houses and 5,000 poultry broilers were burnt in two fire incidents in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur and Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Monday evening.
A fire broke out, originating from the heat of electric welding at Shahi Cold Storage in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Monday afternoon, but there was no damage as the fire fighters of Thakurgaon and Dinajpur jointly brought the fire under control.
In Kaharol upazila, a fire broke out at Masterpara village on Monday evening rapidly spread to the surrounding area. At least 60 houses of 26 families were burnt before the fire fighters from Birganj and Dinajpur doused the fire after struggling for around two hours.
Valuables worth Tk 50 lakh were burnt in the fire that originated from the kitchen of Neelkantha Roy of the village.
Rabiul Foysal, upazila nirbahi officer of Kaharol, visited the affected area and assured the victims of compensation from the government.
In Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, at least 5,000 broilers worth Tk 20 lakh of a poultry farm were rousted alive as a devastating fire broke out at Keshabpur village on Monday evening.
Later the fire fighters of newly established fire station in Akkelpur upazila doused the fire, said Sajjad Hossain, officer of Akkelpur Police Station.
