MUMBAI: Nearly 10 days after Bhojpuri actor Mitali Sharma was admitted to Thane Mental Hospital, doctors treating her said the 25-year-old had sunk into severe depression and was yet to respond to treatment.
Police recently found the model-turned-actor, who had hit a rough patch in her career, wandering on the streets of Oshiwara in a troubled state of mind. They sent her to the mental hospital in Thane.
However, the former Delhi girl continues to remain aloof from other patients at the hospital and even refrains from conversing with staffers who take care of her, doctors at the facility said.
Interestingly, Sharma’s family members and friends seem to have abandoned her as no one has turned up at the mental hospital to take her custody. “We have no idea about her background or her work-family situation. She is very guarded and keeps to herself. After 10 days of medication, she does talk to me a little, but it is all irrelevant things. By the end of the treatment, she should develop a sense of comfort with us and may open up about her problems,” said Dr Anjali Deshpande, who is supervising Sharma’s treatment.
Officials at Oshiwara police station, who helped Mitali get the psychological help she needed, believe her failing acting career probably affected her mentally. “We received two calls about a woman suspiciously roaming the streets of Lokhandwala and realised it was the same woman each time. In the second incident we found her breaking into a car. She kept talking about her acting career and any attempt to ask her about anything else was not received well. She even bit one of our officials,” said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station.
“We took her to JJ Hospital in Nagpada and when they suggested she should be taken to a mental hospital, we brought her to Thane. Even when she entered the hospital she pretended it to be a part in a movie scene. It seems like her job has affected her a lot mentally. We have been trying to locate her family, but have had no luck yet,” he added.
