GURGAON: Over 200 students from Government Senior Secondary School, Chakkarpur, took upon themselves to free Gurgaon of cars on Tuesday.
The students walked and cycled for about a kilometer from Bristol Chowk to their school on Golf Course Road to mark 32nd Car Free Day.
The cycle rally was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deepak Saharan who was joined by the school principal Anshu Singla and Manas Fuloria, co-founder and CEO of Nagarro Software.

These students walk and cycle to school regularly and are true flag bearers of the car free day movement. High-speed traffic during early mornings when the students try to cross the road from Sikanderpur leads to a dangerous for the students and there have been accidents too.
The students shared the problems they face in dealing with car traffic as regular pedestrians and cyclists during their rally.
The DCP promised to look into the matter and provide traffic police officials during morning and after school hours at two critical spots on Golf Course Road from where the students cross over.
“We have noted two spots along the road from where maximum children cross over. The road is very wide and high-speed traffic is a major concern here for pedestrians, especially for children. I will discuss the issue with DCP Traffic and will provide a traffic marshal at least for an hour each in the morning and afternoon," said DCP (East) Deepak Saharan.
Addressing the students, he added that students must also keep basic safety and traffic rules in mind. They should not be an underage or a without license. He also advised wearing a good quality helmet on motorcycles even as pillion rider. He added that walking and cycling is the healthiest and most pollution-free way of commuting and children should tell parents about this too.
