BEIJING: External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj's complaint about certain countries practicing double standards in dealing with terrorism was evident in China's responses to the issues concerning Uyghur leader Dolkan Isa and Jaish-e-Muhammad chief Masood Azhar on Tuesday.
India recently withdrew the visa it earlier gave to Isa to attend a conference in Dharamsala following protests from China, who regards him as a terrorists.
But the Chinese foreign ministry showed no appreciation for India's gesture. It suggested that India was merely doing its duty as a responsible nation.
"At first we saw that India planned got issue visa to Dolkan we expressed our concern to the Indian side immediately. Dolkan is on the red notice of the interpol and we believe that it is the responsibility of all the countries to bring him to justice," foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, adding, "At the moment, China and India are in very good communication, and we hope the two countries will properly deal with the relevant issue."

On the other hand, the ministry indicated that it will continue to ignore India's protests over China's attitude towards Pakistan based Masood Azhar, the main suspect in the Pathankot attack. The ministry has issued a statement defending its decision to block any discussion on the subject at the United Nations although both India and United States were keen to list it on the agenda of the UN security council.
China said the rules encouraged a member of the security council to consult both the country that sought such a listing, and also the country where the person being targeted resides.

There is an indication that China consulted with Pakistan before blocking India's move to get the UN to declare Masood as a terrorist. At the same time, China offered to consult on the issue with India.
Talking about the UN committee that deals with the issue, it said, "In accordance with the rules of procedure of the 1267 committee, the committee encourages communication between countries that ask for the listing and countries where individuals or entities covered in the listing come from or live in."

The statement indicated that China is unlikely to change its stand and will continue to support what Pakistan has made its own cause, which is to stop the UN from declaring Masood Azhar as a terrorist.
"We encourage all parties related to the listing matter of Masood Azhar to have direct communication and work out a solution through serious consultation. China is willing to continue with its communication with all relevant parties," Chinese foreign ministry added suggesting it is ready to discuss the issue further with India.
