TJAC, Gaddar backs Congress campaign on 12% Muslim quota

The “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” campaign, undertaken by Minorities Department of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee, got a major boost on Tuesday with Telangana Political Joint Action Committee and balladeer Gaddar extending their support to the movement.

The campaign, being led by GHCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, was organised at historic Charminar by former corporator Mohammed Ghouse.

Pargi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy, TJAC Co-Convener Venkat Reddy and SC, ST, BC & Minorities Forum chairman Sanaullah participated in the campaign and signed the petition seeking 12% Muslim reservation. Speaking on the occasion, Rammohan Reddy said that the Congress party would create awareness among the people across the State to pressurise Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in fulfilling the promise that he made during elections. He praised the GHCC Minorities Department for organising a successful campaign wherein more than 10 lakh signatures were collected from different sections of the society as part of “One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation.”

TJAC Co-Convener Venkat Reddy said he was participating in the campaign as a representative of TPJAC Chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram Ram, who could not attend the event due to some other committment. He said that the TJAC fully supports the campaign and demand that the Chief Minister fulfil his major election promise.

Balladeer Gaddar could not attend the programme personally due to sudden ill-health. However, he spoke to the media persons at the venue through a speaker phone. He said there was no question of allowing the TRS Government to go scot free on the promise of 12% Muslim reservation. “KCR should clarify the basis on which he made the promise of 12% Muslim reservation. He must have done some homework before making the promise. There is a ceiling of 50% on reservation. Therefore, the Chief Minister should explain as to how he would increase the reservation percentage by 8% for Muslims. Does he propose to reduce the quota for other communities? If not, then he must give a clear road map on giving 12% reservation to both Muslims and Tribals,” Gaddar said while announcing his total support to the campaign. He assured that he would participate in other programmes on 12% Muslim quota.

SC, ST, BC Minorities Forum chairman Sanaullah assured that his organisation would fully support the “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaik Abdullah Sohail thanked TJAC, Gaddar and Sanaullah for their support. He said that the GHCC Minorities Department would involve more NGOs and voluntary organisation in their 12% Muslim reservation campaign. He also announced that the Congress party would soon launch a “Selfie Video” campaign as part of “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” movement.

Senior Congress leaders including GHCC General Secretary Syed Nizamuddin, ex-Corporator Meraj Mohammed, Khaja Pasha, Moosa Quadri, Shaheen Sultana and others participated in the campaign.

In a novel protest, ex-Corporator cleaned the tables in Irani cafes around Charminar requesting the people to sign the petition on 12% Muslim quota. He said Muslim children would be reduced to cleaning of tea tables and other menial jobs if the community does not unite to get promised 12% quota in jobs and education. (INN)
