BHU Professor Commits Suicide After Would-Be-Groom Calls Off Marriage

An assistant professor of history at the Women’s College in Banaras Hindu University reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself.

Police said the professor, Swati Pandey, committed suicide inside her home in Varanasi on Sunday after her engagement, scheduled for next month was called-off.

Police have also recovered a suicide note written by Pandey, which said she was taking the extreme step after being distressed over the cancellation of the alliance.

Her family said Pandey was to get engaged next on May 9, but her would-be-groom had refused to marry her despite most of the arrangements being made.

Her call records also showed that She had a long conversation with the boy before she took her own life. 

Police have registered a case against unknown person based on a complaint by her family.
