Election King Padmarajan Is All Set For His 174th Fight, To Take On Vijayakanth In Tamil Nadu

Dr K Padmarajan, a homoeopathic doctor-turned businessman in Tamil Nadu who holds the record for contesting in most number of elections is gearing up for his latest outing. This time against 'Captian' Vijayakanth in Ulundurpet in the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

Even though he has already filed the nomination, typical of Padmarajan, he won't be doing any campaign, just like in all the previous elections.

Despite fighting in such massive number of elections, the physician has never tasted success. The closest he has ever come was in 2011 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls where he managed to get 6,700 votes polled against his name.

The Limca and Guinness Record holder has in the past contested against President Pranab Mukherjee, former presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi,former prime ministers Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa former chief M Karunanidhi, late Kerala chief minister K Karunakaran and former Union minister A K Antony.

Still maintaining that he has no political affiliation and his election appearances are not a publicity stunt, 57-year-old Padmarajan said he has spent over Rs 20 lakhs in 'election expenses' since he first contested in 1989.
