Heather Watson is the first British player to confirm her entry to this summer's Aegon Open in Nottingham, joining Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka in the line-up.

Watson, who won the third WTA title of her career in Mexico earlier this season, missed last year's edition through injury but will be using the tournament in preparation for Wimbledon.

"I'm really happy that I will be coming to the Aegon Open Nottingham this summer," Watson said.

"I was sorry to have to miss the event last year and I'm looking forward to starting my grasscourt season there.

"Playing tennis in front of home fans is one of the best experiences in the game and I had some incredible moments on grass last year and want to do even better in 2016."

The British No.2 will face stiff competition in Nottingham as a host of big names have also confirmed their entry.

Former Australian Open champion Azarenka is already on the entry list and former world No.1 Wozniacki has also now been added.

Wozniacki said: "I'm delighted to be playing the Aegon Open Nottingham this summer.

"The grasscourt season is one of my favourite times of the year and the British fans always make a great atmosphere.

"It will be exciting to play this event for the first time and discover a new city."

The WTA tournament takes place from June 6-12, two weeks before Wimbledon which begins on June 27.
