David Price believes he should be reinstated to the top 15 fighters in the IBF rankings after his last opponent Erkan Teper was banned for doping.

Price (19-3, 16 KOs) was knocked out last July in the second round by Teper, who is still No.3 in the governing body's rankings despite being suspended for two years after failing a post-fight drugs test.

"I have been cheated and I deserve something back," Price, ranked fifth last June, told BBC Sport.

"The very least should be once I'm active again and winning, Teper is removed and I'm reinstated back into the top 15.

"Instead of being put to the back of the queue, I deserve to be back where I was before I was cheated. In any other sport that would happen."

The former British heavyweight champion has not fought since the defeat to Teper, but is set to make his comeback on the undercard of Tony Bellew's fight with Ilunga Makabu next month.

Price's two other defeats in 22 professional fights both came to America's Tony Thompson, who also failed a drugs test after beating the Englishman.

"There's opportunities awaiting ranked fighters and I won't be denied because I've been cheated," added Price.

"As far as dealing with drugs cheats is concerned, boxing is in the dark ages. It is just common sense. If someone cheats in a fight, then their results should be scratched.

"In athletics, if the winner is banned for drugs, the person who finishes second gets the medal. It's so simple to do."

Teper lost his European heavyweight title but the result of the bout still stands. The British Boxing Board of Control says it will discuss the matter with the IBF and European Boxing Union.

Current IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will make the first defence of his title against Dominic Breazeale on June 25 who is as low as 13th in the rankings.

Price added: "It could have been me getting a title shot -- two Olympic medalists against each other -- but it's a big fight I have been cheated out of.

"I have missed out on this opportunity, but I still hold out hope later in the year."

Teper will be removed from the IBF rankings next month because of inactivity, having not fought since his win over Price.
