Bhubaneswar: Several houses were gutted in Sonepur, Boudh and Dhenkanal districts on Monday.
In Sonepur, 25 families of Rangapur village under Tarva police limits were rendered homeless in a fire. "No life was lost in the accident, but household articles were reduced to ashes," said IIC of Tarva police station Srikanta Tripathy.
Forest fire engulfed houses of 65 families at Jhankarpada village in Boudh district.
"Firemen from Baunsuni fire station were pressed into service," said ASI of Manmunda police station Upendra Digal. In Dhenkanal , 40 thatched houses were destroyed in a major fire at Harachua village. "Sixteen firemen took more than five hours to douse the flames," said assistant fire officer of Gondia fire station Banabihari Pradhan. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added.
