The cabinet's nod to create 14 new posts, including the posts of one additional collector III each for Mapusa and Ponda, has already been approved by the administrative reforms department and the finance department.

Chief secretary R K Srivastava said the council of ministers resolved to approve the creation of two additional collectors-III posts, one each for Ponda and Mapusa; two posts of 'awal karkun', one each for Mapusa and Ponda; and two junior stenographers. Similarly, four posts of lower division clerks have been created, two each for Mapusa and Ponda. Posts of two drivers and two peons have also been created.
In January last year, the cabinet had resolved to shift the jurisdiction of the entire Ponda taluka from the North Goa district to the South Goa district for better administrative services. It had also decided to allocate one additional collector to the Mapusa and Ponda sub-divisions to streamline the functioning of government departments.
